Artist Lynn Capell

The paintings of Lynn Capell present a view of island life that is redolent with mangoes and bathed in filtered sunlight. Having lived, studied, and painted in such exotic places as Florence, Italy, Brazil, a small island off the coast of Panama, northern California, and now the Big Island of Hawaii, Capell is always seeking ways to express her love for the beauty around her.

Most recently Capell has been exploring woodblock printing and working in mixed media on more abstract themes. Still, she never abandoned her love of landscapes and painting figures, and today is as moved to paint the island’s lovely hula dancers as the wind swept waves while she strives to capture motion through brushwork and color, with always a subtle emphasis on negative space.
